| Chondroitin sulfate is an important glycosaminoglycan
-- GAG (mucopolysaccharide) for the metabolic transformation to
larger molecules that make up proteoglycans. Proteoglyccans, large
molecules built from GAG's, are most abundant in connective tissues
such as cartilage, skin, blood vessel walls, sclera, cornea, intervertebral
discs and tendons. It is suggested that Chondroitin Sulfate be taken
in conjunction wih glucosamines as are contained in PATHAID? --
glucosamine complex -- for an optimal effect. Manganese and Vitamin
C are important in the metabolic processes for making connective
tissue.
Chondroitin sulfate is a larger molecule also found in
cartilage. Chondroitin sulfate has been studied much less extensively,
but early results show that it also seems to work as an anti-inflammatory
and reduces pain. Some laboratory studies suggest that chondroitin
sulfate may slow cartilage breakdown and even spur cartilage growth
(2).
Chondroitin sulfate is another natural substance found
in the body. It prevents other body enzymes from degrading the building
blocks of joint cartilage. |
